Correspondence, programs, clippings, articles, diaries, broadsides, anniversary booklets, essays, maps, reports, deeds, receipts, bills, genealogical notes, reminiscences, wills and probate papers, publications, notebooks, newsletters, certificates, and other items. Of note are the notebook of J. Lawrence Smith relating to Smithtown and the Smith family, an annotated copy of his book HISTORY OF SMITHTOWN, LONG ISLAND and copies of legal papers and documents relating to his work as attorney and surrogate judge, 1854-1885, recollections of Frank E. Brush and other Smithtown residents, 1937-1965; records of the Brooklyn Home for Children, Hauppauge, 1854-1954; manuscript and typescript "Colored in Smithtown" by William Wickham Mills III, 1956; deed and typed transcription of transfer of property from Richard and Sarah Smith to Daniel Smith, 1688. The collection contains about one-third Smith family and one-fifth Blydenburgh family material.
